Replica of Dragon King’s Palace among highlights of celebration

VISITORS who are keen to know about the shape of the Dragon King’s Palace should make it a point to visit the Chinese New Year Cultural and Heritage Celebration 2012 in Penang.

In view of the celebration, the Cheah Kongsi on Lebuh Armenian will be transformed into a replica of the Dragon King’s Palace during the celebration, which will be held from 3pm to midnight on Jan 29.

Organising secretary Loh Boon Huan said the man-made palace would be the centre of attraction as visitors would want to know the history behind the famous Chinese zodiac, the Dragon.

And next year is the zodiac year of the mythical creature too.

“It would be the first time ever that the replica of the palace would be displayed and visitors can also take photographs of a replica Dragon chair. The chair was de-signed and made according to the ones sat by past Emperors,” he told a recent press conference.

The event is jointly organised by the state government, the Penang Chinese Clan Council and Clan Associations Youth Committee Penang.

Penang Town and Country Planning, Housing and Arts Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai said there would also be lion and dragon dances as well as chingay performances held at the main entrance to the cultural celebration area.

He said: “There would be a lifestyle exhibition with Chinese opera performances along Chulia Street.”

Visitors can experience the va-rieties of traditional Chinese cuisine such as steamed buns, stuffed dumplings, tea and many more on Cannon Street near the Khoo Kongsi.

The celebration will cover the inner township roads of Cannon Street, Armenian Street, Chulia Street, Acheh Street, Ah Quee Street, Soo Hong Lane, Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling and Kampung Kolam.

（槟城10日讯）槟州年度新春重头好戏《祥龙献瑞庆壬辰文化庙会2012》，除了将通过“海底水晶龙宫”的方式，呈现古人对龙的信仰、崇拜及不同的传说，更首次展览并示范峇峇娘惹的传统服装、婚礼、食品和游戏，邀你在古色古香的古迹陪衬下，感受文化艺术魅力！

这项由槟州政府及槟州各姓氏宗祠联委会联合主催，槟州各姓氏宗祠青年团联委会主办的《祥龙献瑞庆壬辰文化庙会2012》将于明年1月29日，即农历正月初七，下午3时至午夜12时在乔治市古迹区隆重引爆。

黄汉伟：利用古迹力量

大会主席，也是掌管文化委员会事务的黄汉伟周五在新闻发布会上表示，这是利用古迹区的力量，混合文化艺术所展现的新春文化活动，具有多重意义，除了推动文化工作，带动新年气氛，也显现了州政府对文化遗产城的重视。

“在推动旅游业的同时，也冀透过这年度最具规模的新春庙会，让对古迹区产生疏离感的年轻一代，陌生的年轻一代，重新认识古迹。去年的庙会吸引了约10万名国内外游客。”

他说，虽然有单位建议为何不把庙会地点移师至旧关仔角或槟州同乐会广场举行，但大会考量，在现成的古迹区办庙会，不只是能够联系当地的宗祠家庙，更能展现槟城华人在古迹区的生命力，以及多元种族的街头文化色彩。因此，最后决定把明年庙会的地点定在乔治市古迹区。

四大主题区 谢川伟：呈现中华文化精髓

工委会主席谢川伟说，明年是龙年，龙对华人而言是吉祥与腾飞的象征，2012年的庙会年度盛事，则将通过四大主题区，即：“信仰”、“饮食”、“文艺”及“保健”，带出中华文化五千年的精髓。

四大主题区中的“信仰区”，将通过“海底水晶龙宫”的方式呈现古人对龙的信仰、崇拜及不同的传说；“饮食区”将利用“龙门客栈”来呈现，让现代人了解古人的饮食方式和食肆；“保健区”将更深入去了解各门派的拳术及各种神兽的玩法。

至于“文艺区”则要让现代人了解古人对文娱及艺术的热忱，将之继续发扬光大。值得一提的是，大会也以“万龙图”为题，准备一匹长布希望可收集2万名公众用毛笔字写成的“龙”字。现场也通过戏剧表演的方式，呈现棋盘上你争我斗的“真人象棋”。

他表示，其他街道及建筑物的活动包括《追踪溯源，承先启后》介绍华人姓氏来源及槟城各宗祠郊庙的资料展，认识堂号及猜姓氏灯谜；展出过往庙会经典图片的《那些年......》图片展；孙中山基地将展示孙中山在槟城的事迹和资料；慕韩别墅将举行“孙中山百年纪念图片展”；开放给公众参观的回教博物馆。

“此外，现场设有的‘籍贯区’，将有槟城各大籍贯乡会会馆及属会的历史图片展、籍贯剧场、民族服装、美食品尝及不同的文化展览；呈献独特传统老行业的《槟城夕阳行业旧头路》、《华人传统节庆》将演绎及展览华人的传统节庆食品、用品和庆祝方式；峇峇娘惹区，以及《古早儿时玩意儿》，将带领公众回味小时候的古早玩意儿，并让现时代的儿童认识过往爸妈小时候的游戏。”

今年的新春庙会设立在古迹区，即：打铜仔街、本头公巷、大统巷、打石街、亚贵街、四方巷、牛干冬及甘榜哥南。出席新闻发布会者包括宗联委主席孙诗景、工委会总策划钟骓巾宾、秘书骆汶焕、青联委副主席汪家伦、洪玉璇等人。

黃漢偉：落實資訊自由法案‧公僕須提高工作效率

（檳城）檳州行政議員黃漢偉指出，在州議會3讀通過的資訊自由法案若正式實施，公務員須改變現有的工作文化，以更透明方式處理事務，從而提高工作效率。

他說，在這變化迅速的社會，民眾對公務員的要求提高，期望公務員能提昇服務效率，推動國家工商業的發展。

黃漢偉是於昨日（8日）代表檳州首席部長林冠英主持檳州工程局創新頒獎禮上致詞時發表上述談話，在場者有該局主任阿末拉迪。

他指出，在新的法案執行後，公務員須擺脫舊有的工作態度，採取有效的溝通技巧，改善與各政府機構、民眾及私人界的關係，更重要是為民眾與私人界提供更佳的服務。

他說，雖然公務員的薪金不如私人界優厚，但公務員須保持樂業敬業的態度，更何況公務員的薪金調高，工作效率也應相應提昇。

Call to work hard

PENANG Public Works Department (PWD) employees should work hard to meet the expectations of stakeholders and the public, said state PWD director Ahmad Latif Abdul Hamid.

He said although they were attached to different divisions, they must create a positive working environment and foster teamwork.

“Everyone must work towards the same goal. We must also serve the public with integrity,” he said in his speech at the PWD Innovation Day at Setia Pearl Island in Bayan Lepas.

Sixty-two retirees were recognised for their contributions to the department during the function.

Twenty-four employees were also honoured for receiving salary adjustments while 63 employees received excellent service awards.

All of them received plaques and certificates on Thursday.

Among the retirees was Abdul Rahman Mohd Ibrahim, 58, who had served as a driver for 40 years.

“I’m proud to have served the department for such a long period,” he said.

Another retiree Abdul Fattah Mohamed Salleh Araby, 58, said he had served as a technician for 38 years.

In his speech, Penang Town and Country Planning, Housing and Arts Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai encouraged the staff to think out of the box when discharging their duties.

猴棗芭的居民在檳政府的協助下，終於得以“回家”，並住在優質的“中央花園”內，讓大家興奮地跳起來！（圖：星洲日報）


（檳城）“我們有房子住啦，謝謝檳州政府的幫忙！”

來自前“猴棗芭”（位於峇都蘭樟奧林匹亞學院原址後）的數十名居民，昨日（27日）中午相約中央花園（Central Garden）前拉橫幅，以行動感謝檳州政府在過去幾年來為他們爭取權益，讓他們在離開猴棗芭三年後，仍可以回到原址，住回原來的地方！

這群居民有的帶著父母、有的帶著兒女，大家扶老攜幼出現在現場，人人臉上無不掛著燦爛的笑容，場面一片喜氣洋洋。

居民頂著大太陽頻頻向峇都蘭樟區州議員羅興強道謝，爾後更興奮地走入甫落成不久的“中央花園”中廉價屋，參觀他們未來的家。

獲中央公園40單位
羅興強：讓人羨慕

羅興強向記者說，這群居民都是當年猴棗芭的原住戶，大部份的人都已在當地落地生根數十年，有者甚至已經住了三代人。

“2008年，猴棗芭被地主徵收，作為興建豪華公寓及中廉價屋之用，結果，裡頭的10間房子就被迫要搬遷，離開他們生長許多年的土地。”

他說，受影響的10間房子獲在原址興建的中廉價屋作為賠償，但，問題是，這10間房子內，其實又有多戶人家“寄住”在周遭，獲賠的10個中央花園單位，實在不夠住。

檳民聯爭取更多賠償“檳民聯在2008年執政後，立刻為他們爭取更多的賠償，所幸的是，在經過和發展商的多次討論後，終於作出定案，即挪出額外的30餘單位保留予受影響的猴棗芭居民購買，讓他們有個落腳處。”

他也說，中央公園共有195個單位，是個優質的中廉價屋，現在單單猴棗芭的居民就可以獲得約40單位，可算是非常的令人羨慕。

羅興強稍後也和居民一同參觀新房子，分享大家的喜悅。出席者包括了檳州房屋事務委員會主席黃漢偉的代表莫策燕。（星洲日報／大北馬）

Home sweet home

ALONG-AWAITED dream has come true for sisters Yap Siew Bee, 41, and Siew Thoo, 26, who have received a new low medium-cost home.

“I am so happy today and I can’t wait to move into our unit when it is completed,” said Siew Bee.

Siew Thoo said that previously, their large family of 10 all stayed under one roof.

“Now, we will have two units for all of us to live in,” she said when they visited the soon-to-be completed Central Park project in Penang.

They were among 10 families living along Lebuhraya Batu Lanchang who were forced to move out in 2008 to make way for the project’s development.

The families were compensated with units at the project after the state government intervened.

Another resident who declined to be named said he was looking forward to moving in.

“The unit looks very nice and trendy,” he said.

Batu Lanchang assemblyman Danny Law met the affected families at Central Park and took them on a tour of their units.

Law said there were a total of 175 low medium-cost units at Central Park, with each unit measuring 16.25sq m.

“The families should be able to move into their units next month,” he added.

State Housing EXCO Wong Hon Wai was represented by his assistant Bok Chek Ean.

YB Wong Hon Wai bersama cyclists lain menyempurnakan 6km kayuhan tersebut. Beliau juga sambung tambahan kayuhan 6km bersama YB Koid dan Sdr Gooi. Jumlah jarak kayuhan ialah 12km.

骑铁马享大自然田园风光 浮罗环保脚车道推展礼

（槟岛西南区3日讯）全长20.5公里的“浮罗生态脚车道”正式推展，脚车道路线是环绕远离尘嚣的大自然生态环境，热爱脚车运动者可体验乔治市古迹脚车道以外的另一种风光。

浮罗脚车道的推手槟州议长拿督阿都哈林也给脚车发烧友带来好消息，他说，浮罗脚车道推展后还有很多提升空间，未来有可能衔接槟岛原有的脚车道，形成名副其实的环岛脚车道。

他周六在浮罗文丁体育馆为生态脚车道主持推展礼时，如是说道。

他同时许下两个愿景，放眼在2015年之前，乔治市将成为最友善的脚车城市，而生态脚车道则成为国内最佳脚车道，让槟州的脚车运动越来越风行。

阿都哈林：20.5公里长

阿都哈林致词时说，推行生态脚车道的念头其实是于一年前萌起。自5年前起，脚车运动逐渐成为老少咸宜的运动，而且逐渐在槟州蔚然成风，特别是绿意盎然的浮罗山背，更是脚车友热爱的地点。

“特别是周末，浮罗山城至少可见500名本地和外地脚车友的踪迹，他们喜欢这个充满绿意远离市区喧嚣的生态环境。”

他说，脚车道全长20.5公里，脚车友只要跟着沿路设置的指示牌和脚车道标志，肯定不会迷路。

脚车道的大部分路线属于离开主要道路以外的越野道，从浮罗文丁体育馆开始，途经双溪武隆、知知特拉、双溪古洛、新路头港口、双溪武隆港口、浮罗勿洞、甘榜特朗、甘榜文丁，再折返文丁体育馆。

“沿途映入眼帘的景色优美，有稻田、椰林、森林保护区、鱼虾养殖场、渔港和海滩等。浮罗山背是槟岛唯一的最大绿肺，脚车道所经的路线都是一片绿油油，所以我们命名为生态脚车道。”

将是槟岛最佳脚车道

生态脚车道推展后，次阶段将提升脚车道路线和设施，包括在未来加长路线，以涵盖更多浮罗绿色地区。

阿都哈林指出，当局已在脚车道沿路装置数盏太阳能路灯，希望能够推行夜间骑脚车，让骑士体验夜间骑铁马的乐趣，同时计划以再回收物料在脚车道区建设休息站和凉亭，让脚车骑士欣赏浮罗山背的夕阳美景。

“次阶段的计划尚有设立脚车停放处、脚车租借处，并在脚车道路线內的渔港引进更多食肆，丰富化脚车运动，届时相信脚车运动和景点将成为浮罗的新图标。”

他说，浮罗这条脚车道肯定无法媲美闻名世界的加拿大魁北克（Route Verte）脚车道，不过假以时日，一定是槟岛最佳的脚车道，因为此脚车道未来可衔接槟岛內原有的脚车道，形成真正的环岛脚车道。

占德兰：确保骑士不迷路

槟岛市政局工程部代副总监拉占德兰指出，市政局耗资3万令吉在沿路设立了41个指示牌，确保骑士不会迷路。他希望交通使用者能够互相尊重和礼让，如果发现行驶中的道路是脚车道的一部分，一定要格外小心，以及注意脚车骑士的安全。

莫哈末：确保狗不咬伤人

另外，市政局休闲、旅游和国际事务部总监莫哈末阿克巴说，市局未来将号召槟州旅游和酒店业者，共同推广浮罗脚车道。

他也说，为了保障脚车骑士的安全，市区将严密监督浮罗的野狗问题，同时教育当地村民，更妥善的看顾狗只，确保它们不会咬伤脚车骑士。

（檳城30日訊）阿依淡區州議員黃漢偉指出，在提升天德園大道計劃上，首階段擴建工程將從本週六晚間11時至下週一的早上7時展開，屆時，當局將會把來回方向的其中1條車道關閉，公眾受促小心駕駛。

他週二出席壟尾寶石花園哪啅公聖誕千秋聯歡宴時表示，由於往來的車輛很多，雙方向只有一個車道的情況下肯定會很塞車，在考慮到這點下，發展商選擇在無工作日進行道路施工工程。

無工作日施工

他指出，雖然是在無工作日施工，但為駕駛者的安全起見，走在該路時必須要小心及加以忍讓，以免造成不必要的意外事件。

黃漢偉說，目前已是學校假期，因此他相信，此工程不會為交通帶來很大影響，涉及路段是從該大道BL Garden至殯儀館前的100米路。

他說，此提升工程完成後，發展商將另尋合適時間，為另外兩條車道施工。此路段的提升工作預計在3個月內完成，提升工作包括將急轉彎的路段鋪直，以及加高道路以減少斜度，讓駕駛者行駛更順暢。

他表示，由於12月與1月是旅遊旺季，具有幾個著名旅遊景點的阿依淡區必將湧入更多車輛；他將召集幾個相關單位商討紓解交通的方案，避免交通過於擁擠，為居民帶來困擾。

Exco man: Expose the young to Chinese arts

SCHOOLS should put more emphasis on teaching Chinese arts including calligraphy to their students, said Penang Town and Country Planning, Housing and Arts Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai.

He said the younger generation nowadays were not given sufficient exposure to aspects relating to Chinese culture.

“During my visit to Hong Kong recently, I noticed calligraphy writing on the walls of the LRT stations.

“We should follow this example,” he said in his speech when launching a calligraphy painting exhibition at Island Gallery.

The exhibition ends today. Admission is free.

乡委会表扬宴会

较早时，在其讲稿中，首长也鼓励槟州的乡委会成为全国最佳的乡委会组织，同时州政府也立愿成为全国最佳的政府。会上，第一副首长曼梳致词时指出，所有乡委会可成立个别的义务巡逻队，以便配合政府努力打造成为一个安全州；此外他认为，乡委会有必要与警方及消拯队保持良好的联系关系。

会上他表示，州政府鼓励所有乡委会成立合作社，目前已有30个乡委会组织成立合作社，而在是晚的表扬会中将颁发奖励金给其中18间经营成功的合作社。

是晚曼梳在陪同下颁奖给夺得东北县冠军的甘榜马來由乡委会，来自威中的达曼阿曼再也花园乡委会夺得总冠军荣誉；出席仪式者包括刘子健行政议员、黄汉伟行政议员、槟州议长阿都哈林、陈明发州议员、威省市议会主席麦慕达等。
